Geidea is a Riyadh-headquartered, SAMA-regulated fintech founded in 2008 by Abdullah Al Othman, and was the first company to receive a payment-acquiring license in Saudi Arabia, at one point capturing roughly half of the kingdom's POS market. In May 2018, Abu Dhabi-based private equity firm Gulf Capital acquired a strategic minority stake for a transaction valued at over SAR 1 billion (~$267M); the company remains active with operations in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Egypt.
