NuRain developed an AGS-GDM wastewater-treatment technology at KAUST. It claims about 75% less energy use and over 60% less sludge than conventional activated sludge, and treated water fit for reuse. The technology went from lab prototype (2018) through pilot plants to a 100 m3/day full-scale unit (2022), operated at the Rabigh treatment plant in 2023.
